Nose Surgery

Purpose

To correct deformities of the nose.

Details

Nose deformities may be born with or caused by trauma or disease. Sometimes patients just want to change the look of their nose.

A detailed examination and documentation of the specific problem in a case, including a patient's subjective view, is made and discussed.

Injections of local and vasoconstrictors are then made around the nose. Nasal hairs are trimmed. Incisions are then made and these may be inside the nostrils or outside depending on the approach. The soft tissues of the nose are then carefully separated from the underlying skeleton. Work is now done to the skeletal framework or materials in the form of cartilage or implant is inserted. The area is washed out and wounds are closed. Tapes and splints may have to be put on for the first post-operative week.

Result

The final result awaits settling of swelling which may sometimes take up to a few weeks to be fully resolved.

Caution

Depending on the degree of the initial deformity, touch ups are sometimes necessary.  Where implants are inserted, the inherent potential risks of infection and extrusion are present.
